CRL operates a large (5 acre) antenna test range in a quiet location on the Atherton Tablelands about 1.5 hours drive south-west from Cairns. This facility contains workshop facilities, living quarters, towers and associated radio systems to allow research and investigation into radio and antenna performance. This area is of sufficient size to allow the erection of full sized HF DF antennas. CRL has recently taken delivery of an Australian Turntables 7m x 15,000kg vehicle turn-table to allow automated antenna measurements, including DF system calibration, on light armoured vehicles. The antenna range is also used to collect, analyse, modify and retransmit signals sent from our main Cairns facility as part of our continuing development of HF data transmission systems.
